9 Favorites: Winter Blankets and Throws in Jazzy Geometric Patterns
It’s the end of the year, and this week we’re taking a look back at nine of the top stories of 2025, like this one:
Are you, like us, currently hiding under the covers? Newly noted—and admired—all over: wool blankets and throws in cheerfully bold abstract patterns. Many use traditional weaving techniques in a refreshingly devil-may-care palette.
For the color- and pattern-shy, these designs offer an easy way to splash out a room—and to stay warm, too.
Above: Block Shop’s Lawrence Tree Throw is inspired by a Georgia O’Keeffe painting and made of alpaca in Prato, Italy; $385. For more, see Block Shop’s Spirited Case for Color and Pattern.
Above: London textile designer Eleanor Pritchard‘s designs, such as the Dovetail Blanket, are woven at a third-generation, family-run mill in Lancashire and then washed and pressed by wool finishers in Scotland. A while back, we featured Pritchard and her partner’s Inventive Small-Space Quarters.
Above: From DWR, Røros Tweed’s Toskaft Throw, $325, is made of heavy Norwegian wool and comes in gray/turquoise (shown) and gray/yellow.
Above: The Antoni Throw, starting at £535, is one of many merino lambswool designs from UK textile studio Wallace Sewell: “New ideas are created on handlooms at our studios in London and Dorset, and then woven at a family-run textile mill in Lancashire.”
Above: At Welsh tapestry blanket weavers Melin Tegwynt, the lamb’s wool Knot Garden has been “in continuous production since the 1960s.” It’s $325 as a throw and also available in three blanket sizes.
Above: Schoolhouse and Pendleton Woolen Mills collaborated on the Canebrake Wool Blanket, $349, available in two colors; Fireside is shown here.
Above: Colville’s Striped Wool Blanket is a large throw made of “super-soft” wool at the historic Paoletti Mills in Italy. It’s $550 at Forsyth Saint Louis.
Above: Another Schoolhouse x Pendleton collab, Abington Hall Wool Throw is available in three colorways; $299.
Above: The Kvam Norwegian Wool Blanket comes in three sizes and four color variants; from $193 at FJØRN Scandinavian.
